Most people quit by setting a date, and simply stopping smoking on that day “Cold Turkey” method. Others have found that they need help to quit. This website lists some organisations, individuals and products that may be of assistance.
All hospital patients are asked their smoking status, given brief advice to quit and offered the hospital based smoking cessation service for support.
Please remember:
- No one method works
- No method works unless you want to stop smoking
- Success often follows several attempts. If you slip-up and have a cigarette, don’t be discouraged – keep to your quit plan.
-
Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do to improve your health.
-
The Smoking Cessation Coordinator can supply nicotine replacement patches, nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges plus give support to help you quit.
-
The Coordinator also promotes smokefree policies, encourage smokefree environments and work with schools and kura to promote smokefree living.
-
For those wanting to quit now or work towards quitting, this service provides one to one support and/or NRT if required.
